The live-action film of Tatsuki Fujimoto's 'Look Back' one-shot manga has unveiled a new trailer, revealing more cast members and its September 11 opening date in Japan. The cast includes Masaki Suda as Maeda, a Weekly Shonen Jump manga editor, Kankuro Kudō as Tamai, a grade school teacher, Kayo Noro as Akari, Fujino's mother, Ryō Ikeda as Nishi, Fujino's father, Miyu Sasaki as Megumi, Fujino's older sister, Maho Yamada as Manabe, a middle school teacher, and GKIDS will release the film in theaters in 2026 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland. Hirokazu Kore-eda is directing and editing the film, writing the screenplay, and composing the music. The film was showcased at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival on May 15 and ranked #2 in terms of ticket sales in its opening weekend in Japan, earning 227 million yen (about US$1.40 million) in its first three days. GKIDS also screened the film in North America in October 2024, earning US$688,253 at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend. Fujimoto's 'Look Back' one-shot manga was debuted on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021 and had over 2.5 million views on its first day. Viz Media and MANGA Plus launched the manga digitally in English, and Viz Media published it in print in September 2022. The story follows the overly confident Fujino and the shut-in Kyomoto, brought together by their love of drawing manga.
