Burkina Faso and the United States Join Forces for a Healthier Future
In a significant step towards global health security, the United States and Burkina Faso have forged a powerful partnership, signing a five-year bilateral health cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement, announced on February 25, 2026, marks a pivotal moment in the fight against infectious diseases and the strengthening of health systems in the Sahel region.
A Collaborative Approach to Health Security
The MOU, rooted in the America First Global Health Strategy, aims to fortify Burkina Faso's ability to independently manage infectious disease threats. By providing up to $147 million in funding over the next five years, the United States is supporting Burkina Faso's efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other infectious diseases. This financial commitment is accompanied by a significant national investment from Burkina Faso, with a pledge to increase domestic health expenditures by $107 million, showcasing a strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
Strengthening Community Health Systems

The United States has committed more than $11.33 billion in assistance, while recipient countries have contributed $7.23 billion in co-investment.
